Hello Everyone,
I wish to thank the website at http://www.8thairforce.com Computer Generated Data Ltd. (c) 2013 All Rights Reserved. for the data provided in this chart. I had all the information at my fingertips and could have attempted to build this chart but they already had the pertinent information in a friendly database that displayed the important information. My records are from My Uncle Charles (1st Lt Charles L. Gempel) logs of his missions and his reporting of the types of bombs and location of the bombings was right on target .... however we were not aware that he had flown 25 missions because our records indicated he only flew 24. Because these official 8th air force records were more accurate and my information was in his own pen, we deduced that he missed logging one of his missions in late August of 1944. He flew on a couple of missions as an alternate pilot when a pilot was needed so he did not have the same crew on every mission but he did have the same crew on the majority of these missions. Also when threatening weather was forecast they took an additional navigator to assist in flying on instruments when the pilots could not see the ground or certain way points.
A historical glimpse of a crew from a B24 that went down over Hamburg Germany on October 30, 1944. We mourn these heroes and others who have fallen throughout the ages and show them respect and gratitude as they fought for our freedom and that of the world's.
